Buzzy Southtown bar and restaurant opens approachable neighboring market
If San Antonians want more Bar Loretta — and they certainly do, based on online reviews, buzz, and a chef-led CultureMap Tastemaker Awards nomination — it's time to get their tote bags ready. The bar and restaurant has expanded into the space next door (320 Beauregard St.) with a grab-and-go market that opened over the weekend.
Some lucky visitors in the know were able to stop by the Bar Loretta Market and experience the space in its soft opening phase. "Curated" (to use a term from the press release) by Bar Loretta owner Roger Herr and executive chef Paul Petersen, it really is a direct extension of the brand that people have come to know and love.
Folks who missed the soft opening can take solace in an invitation to the grand opening party on Saturday, March 16. Stop by during regular hours to see what's in store.
The release promises "a mélange of curated breakfast and lunch sandwiches," plus cheese boards, and burgers. This is, as many fans of the original location know, overall much more casual fare than the lobster risotto and wine-braised lamb shank, but the cheese boards and burgers are common ground.
The market space offers a similar, but lighter, ambiance with white walls and rustic staging like wooden crates. The floors, too, continue the weathered hardwood of the dining area.
Behind the cashier's counter is a small display containing household items like cling wrap, batteries, soaps, and pain relievers. More than just a general store or a liquor-free to-go window, this space will also offer cocktails, wine, beer, and more.
The Bar Loretta Market is open now. Hours are Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 am to 8 pm; Fridays and Saturdays from 11 am to 11 pm; and Sundays from 11 am to 8 pm. More information is (presumably) coming on the market's brand-new Instagram account.
