Laura Delgado Dippel was born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico, and has lived in China, Germany, and Switzerland, but San Antonio has had her heart for the last 13 years. Currently a resident of Alamo Heights, Dippel specializes in neighboring area Northwood.
"Northwood is strategically located, with easy access to the airport, Loop 410, Fort Sam, and more," she says. "It's full of '60s ranch style homes that are being constantly renovated to meet the modern family lifestyle, offering the compromise of a single-story home with larger backyards."
Dippel cites the area's great school systems (her kids go to school with Northwood students), its family-oriented community, and the wide array of options for entertaining both kids and adults.
Dippel offered up a few more of her personal favorites about life in Northwood. Here's her guide to the area:
Where to eat & drink
From the traditional steakhouse The Barn Door to authentic Mexican fajitas and beans at Taco Palenque - Broadway, there's no shortage of delicious options in the neighborhood.
"La Fonda Alamo Heights has great margaritas and a terrific wine selection, and there are private rooms available for when it's party time," Dippel says.
Grab a quick caffeine fix at Theory Coffee Company, pick up some empanadas at Beto's Alt-Mex, get your 'cue fix at The Barbecue Station, or stop by Taqueria Vallarta for what Dippel deems "the best breakfast tacos."
Where to play
In addition to shopping at Carousel Court and visiting Northridge Park, Haskin Park, and the nearby Salado Creek trails, Dippel reveals her favorite neighborhood gem: Robber Baron Cave.
"This is a really nice little escape, with a couple of picnic tables and native plants that are conveniently labeled," she says. "The cave entrance has roughly built steps that lead to the actual entrance points, which are unfortunately locked with gates. Overall, it's very well preserved and a fun place to have a picnic with the kids and read about the history of the cave."
Where to live
"I got 3831 Harry Wurzbach Rd., House #17 under contract in less than a week, when the average days on the market for these homes is 134," says Dippel. "It will close in less than 30 days as well."
The immaculate, energy-efficient David Weekly home is located in the gated Gardens at Urban Crest community, and was a hard-to-find two-story-home. Built in 2017 — which is uncommon for the area — it doesn't have any carpet, but instead beautiful hardwood floors throughout and tile in the wet areas.
The bright, open family-dining-kitchen area is appointed with 10-foot ceilings, granite counters, a detailed backsplash, Kichler lights, Moet faucet, a walk-in pantry, and stainless steel appliances that include a four-burner gas cooktop.
This home offers excellent use of interior space, with a half-bath downstairs, a Jack-and-Jill bathroom for the second and third bedrooms, a large primary suite with a walk-in closet, and an upstairs loft that could be used as a home office or playroom. The attached two-car garage has a tankless water heater and a water softener, plus there is a drip irrigation system, an in-wall termite treatment, and the possibility for a wireless security system.
"Laura provided me with excellent guidance on what the house needed to be ready to sell in today's market," says one of her clients. "She helped me purchase repair and remodeling services and items at affordable rates. While she offered advice at each step, at the same time it was clear that the final decisions about what to do and what not to do were mine. All of these qualities helped me transform an old house into a modern one, and obtain a higher-than-expected price within the first few days it was listed."
"Laura is an extraordinary agent," says another. "She is detail-oriented, thoughtful, and patient. She cares deeply for each client and will work very hard to meet their needs. We highly recommend Laura!"
