Beloved San Antonio barbecue joint fires up new butcher shop and more food news
Editor's note: We get it. It can be difficult to keep up with the what’s what and who’s who of San Antonio food. But we have you covered with our regular roundup of the freshest local restaurant news.
Smoke Shack Meat Market, the anticipated butcher shop from the owners of Smoke Shack BBQ, opened July 29, according to a Facebook post. In addition to the high-quality cuts, the shop offers artisan food products and grab-and-go meals.
Snooze’s long-awaited second San Antonio location now has an opening date. The brunch-centric eatery will be bringing boozy cocktails, eggs Benedict, and tons of pancakes to 1305 N. Loop 1604 on September 5, according to a company rep. A third outpost, landing at the corner of Interstate 10 and Huebner Road, will follow sometime this winter.
Speaking of opening dates, the second location of Torchy’s Tacos is also making it official. On August 21, the Austin-based chain will celebrating its newest shop at 17627 La Cantera Parkway #105 in The Rim. For a sneak peak, line up before 5 pm in August 20 when the eatery will be holding a preview party with free tacos and live entertainment until 8 pm.
If you have been craving a Folc burger at Bexar Pub, you better get off your duff. As of August 12, the local favorite will be on hiatus to do some maintenance on the facilities. Although much of it is behind the scenes, a release says the renovations will add more seating and shade. According to a release, the food and drink menu will also get a rework in preparation for a reopening at an as-yet undecided date.
A new festival coming to Alamo City is sure to make everyone melt. The inaugural San Antonio Grilled Cheese Fest is coming to the Historic St. Paul on November 10 with a lineup of vendors celebrating the world’s best sandwich. The general admission ticket scores a drink ticket and a sampling of eight sandwiches; VIP access gets early entry and 15 samples. The event will also have live music and fun activities for the whole family.
As of August 2, San Antonians have one less place to cool off this summer. Bahama Buck’s at 4130 Broadway St. has shuttered according to a Facebook announcement. The other locations of the Lubbock-based snow cone franchise will remain open as usual.
