Favorite bakery chain butters up La Cantera with new express café

La Panadería is opening a quick-service location at the Shops of La Cantera.
San Antonio's beloved La Panadería is moving forward with a new grab-and-go concept for La Cantera. Construction on La Panadería Express at the Shops of La Cantera is slated to begin in June, according to state filings.
The popular bakery chain first unveiled the concept in February 2024, originally aiming for a fall 2024 opening date. The Express kiosk location will be near a full-service La Panadería at 17030 Fiesta Texas Dr. #105, which opened in 2021.
According to an earlier press release, the Express location will focus on "on-site baked pan dulce, delectable desserts, and a robust program based on the in-store classics." The quick-service model will allow guests to grab a quick snack before a day of power shopping.
At the time, owners David and Jose Cáceres announced three new locations. The 2503 Broadway St. outpost, nested in the former site of Fratello's Restaurant and Deli, opened in October 2024. A 6,600-square-foot Stone Oak storefront in the former home of Brick House Tavern + Tap at 1011 N. Loop 1604 E. has not yet debuted.
The Cácares brothers have also indicated that they are considering more expansion plans in San Antonio, but have not revealed further details.
"Our passion and dedication to bread cultura are what brought us to this moment," said Jose Cáceres in 2024. "This expansion is more than just new stores. This will bring more opportunity for jobs to the great community of San Antonio and further our legacy throughout Texas and beyond for years to come."
Although state project details are not an exact indicator of grand openings, the paperwork states that construction is expected to wrap up in early September. CultureMap will follow the La Cantera and Stone Oak openings for more information as it becomes available.
