A San Antonio singer, Britton Moore, is making waves on The Voice. The Reagan High School graduate secured a spot in the playoffs on April 7 with a knockout victory over Ari Camille, raising the hopes of local fans that he could be the show's next champion.

The San Antonio singer advanced to the next round in the hit NBC singing competition with a nod to his home state. The 21-year-old contestant belted out a soulful rendition of Zac Brown Band's "Free," the first time he performed a country song on stage.

"I'm from Texas," said Moore during "Country music is in my heart."

Camille countered with her own jaw-dropper, Faith Evans' 1998 hit "Love Like This." The match-up was so tight that coach John Legend immediately promised, "I'm stealing somebody."

The judges' panel gushed about both performers. Coach Kelsea Ballerini joked about Moore: "Every note is so crisp and perfect, it's almost like you're self-auto-tuned."

After the evenly divided judges' reviews, the deciding coach, Adam Levine, took a deep pause. He admitted the decision between the two powerhouse vocalists was "super crappy for me."

Finally, Levine chose Alamo City's hometown hero, advancing him to the playoffs, the final step before the live performance shows where the singers vie for a national vote.

"You just sing the living crap out of everything you sing," said Levine of Moore.

Camille's show-stopping recital was not for nothing, however. Legend kept his word at the end of the segment, using his steal to save the fledgling star. The Voice playoffs begin on April 28. New episodes air on NBC on Mondays at 7 pm Central Time and stream the following day on Peacock.
