SXSW teases 2017 music lineup with sneak peek at showcasing artists
South by Southwest has popped up with an early look at its anticipated 2017 programming. On Tuesday, SXSW Music teased the 2017 lineup by releasing the first round of showcasing artists.
Over 50 names were released, including trending performers Diet Cig, King Cayman, San Fermin, and Cory Branan. My Education, Tameca Jones, Elizabeth McQueen, Hard Proof, and S U R V I V E (the duo that gained national attention for its work on Netflix's Stranger Things) are some of the Austin-based bands on the list. The festival promises to announce another round of artists in October.
SXSW Film also unveiled a big addition. Lee Daniels, the co-creator of Fox's Empire and an Academy Award-nominated director known for The Butler and Precious, joins Jennifer Doudna and Jill Soloway as a keynote presenter for 2017.
SXSW is divided into three main categories — Music, Film, and Interactive — but badge access will expand in 2017. A Film badge, for example, will provide primary access to all Film programming, as well as secondary access to select Interactive and Music events.
The festival takes place March 10-19, 2017, around Austin. Badges are on sale now for discounted rates; get a Music, Film, or Interactive pass for $825 and Platinum access for $1,150 through Friday, September 9.
