San Antonio ranks among the best U.S. cities for young families

Raising kids is one of life's most rewarding journeys. And if you live in San Antonio, you're off to a great start, as the Alamo City has been named one of the best for young families.
Personal finance website ValuePenguin looked at 16 key metrics that fit into five categories. Of the 156 cities studied, San Antonio ranks No. 14.
The Alamo City's highest individual ranking is for outdoor activities (No. 23). Mild weather and proximity of sports stadiums encourage kids to get outside and play. San Antonio ranks No. 29 for education/environment and No. 32 for working parents.
There's no doubt that San Antonio is a desirable place to live, but the city loses major points on affordability. San Antonio ranks No. 50 in the real estate category, partly because of high real estate taxes. San Antonio's lowest mark, No. 133, is for safety and healthcare.
It seems the great state of Texas is a hot spot for young families. Austin ranks No. 1, followed by Houston at No. 2 and Dallas at No. 5.
