Inspired by the mystical cochineal, a small insect that lives on prickly pear cactus and is the ancient, much-prized natural source for vibrant, scarlet red dye, San Antonio’s Cochineala series utilizes art as a medium for exploring scientific endeavors through the creative lens of local artists and musicians. The event will also feature a lively blend of live music, dance, storytelling, poetry, screen printing and interactive, creative activities.
Visitors can experience glow-in-the-dark painting, explore a mushroom trail and fantastic fungi, witness an electrifying illuminated Firefly Dance performance by Urban-15, groove to the world beat music of Rudi + the Rudiments, listen to fascinating stories spun by master storyteller, Emma Ortega, create their own poetry and learn about the City Nature Challenge and iNaturalist: Exploring Nature for Science, self-education and Fun.
