Artpace’s Summer International Artists-in-Residence Andy Coolquitt will hold one final, closing show, Girlfriends and Boyfriends. The show, along with the exhibitions from artists-in-residence Rachel Maclean of Glasgow, Scotland, and Juan William Chavez of St. Louis, Missouri, will feature Coolquitt’s sculptures and installations that utilize scavenged and commercial materials to contextualize domestic space and scale with the viewer in mind.
Coolquitt has an ongoing collaborative project transforming his house in Austin with objects found in the surrounding neighborhood and inviting others to stay at the house and also add to it. Coolquitt was an artist-in-residence at Disjecta in Portland, Oregon, the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, and 21er Haus in Vienna, Austria. In Fall 2012, he presented a major solo exhibition titled attainable excellence at AMOA-Arthouse in Austin. His work is included in the collections such as the Philbrook Museum of Art, the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere in Vienna, and the D. Daskalopous collection.
