There are so many places these days where hamburgers are given creative, innovative, and exotic spins with a range of unique ingredients. While Texas Hamburger Company offers more than just a traditional burger, its fare is served up without thrills, frills, or high prices.

Since opening in the late 1980s, Texas Hamburger Company on Huebner Road has become a reliable family-friendly spot for residents, employees, and visitors in the Medical Center area.

Upon arriving, you won't get the feel of entering a chain restaurant. Rather, you'll instantly encounter a cozy atmosphere highlighted with vintage roadside and gas station signs. Wood paneling further accentuates the semi-nostalgic, homey setting. It’s more than adequate for fast comfort food on a budget.

The crew at the counter-order eatery is used to seeing familiar faces at lunch or dinner. There’s plenty of seating at tables on the first floor, as well as in the cozy loft area upstairs.

Aside from a classic burger, the menu features burgers topped with chili, green chili, or bacon. You can also choose from a chili cheeseburger, turkey burger, and garden burger.

Other options include a guacamole burger, a mushroom-topped burger, and, for the more adventurous eaters, a green chili cheeseburger with a fried egg. These burgers don't have clever names, but you can score one for between $5 and $7.

Some longtime fans of Texas Hamburger Company have argued against the expansion of the casual joint's menu. But when you get a craving, it’s hard to deny a roster of eats that includes hot dogs; chili dogs; and sandwiches (think grilled cheese, chicken-fried steak, and cheesesteak).

Looking for something lighter? Take your pick of several salads, including one with grilled chicken breast.

Everything is homemade. The burgers are big and juicy, but not greasy or overwhelming. Onion rings are crunchy, made just right. And the delicious fried mushrooms are especially popular.

The restaurant also offers cookies, shakes, and malts, and children’s meals.

Texas Hamburger Company keeps things simple with homestyle cooking and a homestyle spirit. And they keep people wanting more.
