The San Antonio Public Library has always had friends, but the official Friends Group was inaugurated on March 23, 1964. The Friends of the San Antonio Public Library is a nonprofit organization which supports the public library system through volunteer service and cultural and educational activities. Membership in the friends is open to all.

The friends give financial assistance to fund the continuing improvements of library facilities and programs and serve as a conduit through which gifts and memorials go directly to the library. Head here to make a gift to The Friends of the San Antonio Public Library.

The Arts and Letters Awards are presented annually by the Friends of the San Antonio Public Library to recognize and celebrate achievements by individuals who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in the arts and letters. Honorees include artists, writers, musicians, educators, community leaders, and entertainers whose dedication and devotion to their chosen fields have served to enrich the cultural and spiritual life of San Antonio.

Any individual or family interested in and supportive of the objectives of the Friends of the San Antonio Public Library may become a member upon application and payment of membership dues. Membership benefits include invitations to all programs, announcements for exhibits and events, attendance at book sale previews, and a bi-monthly newsletter. For more information, head here.
