Shelley Bueche was born in Houston in 1958, and she and her family moved to Austin in 1960. She has witnessed this city exponentially grow from a small college slacker town into today's booming metropolitan area. One day she mourns the "old Austin" of yesteryear as many longtime Austinites do, and the next day she is frequenting a new establishment and delighting in all that Austin has to offer. She is a freelance writer, and will be starting a monthly column on Austin history highlighting hidden gems, stories, and characters from old Austin that still resonate today. If you have any tips, story ideas for future columns, please contact her at SHBueche@aol.com.
